Sufjan Stevens - Illinois [2005]

Es oximorónico asegurar que la sencillez del disco viene intrínseca en la complejidad del disco, pero es imposible verlo de otra manera. Illinois es uno de los trabajos más complejos de la década pasada, letras intrincadas y bien escritas, que evocan las historias más simples de la manera más extraordinaria; arreglos orquestales magnánimos tildados con coros y falsettos del mismo Sufjan. Y no sólo está lleno de compleja sencillez el álbum, también es totalmente experimental y conceptual, la sola idea de estar basado en el estado de Illinois nos atrae a las múltiples facetas de una ciudad que comparada con el universo y acorralada con el tiempo, es prácticamente un punto, una coordenada, y aún así, la magnificencia del trabajo de Sufjan la estira por encima de sus barreras naturales y la lleva por encima del tiempo y el espacio, por encima del mismo Illinois, como si en cada uno de nosotros existiera Illinois no una, sino miles de veces, y contenida por miles de universo. Sus menciones en revistas especializadas de todos los géneros no es en balde, es probablemente el mejor disco de la década y uno de los mejores discos de los últimos tiempos, y no compite con ningún otro sino consigo mismo. A MUST HAVE.
